Week 5: Turning the page to October

The leaves are starting to change, and there is a chill in the air for much of the day and night. Finally it is starting to feel like football season, but the reality is we have officially passed the halfway point in Eastern Mass.

We mentioned last week was the “hump” for teams that had yet to take their byes. As of this weekend, all teams that are scheduled to play seven games will have played at least four, and there will be just three weeks left in the regular season.

It’s a bit longer out for Central and Western Mass., but those teams will have reached the halfway point in their eight-game schedules by the end of Sunday.

There are 92 games involving Eastern Mass. teams, with two played already Thursday night. The lone intersection game pits Keefe Tech at Quaboag in a Friday matinee, while BC High takes on Capital Prep of Connecticut, and Somerset Berkley hosts Coventry (R.I.).

There are 26 more games involving Central Mass. teams, and another 17 in the West — South Hadley already remained unbeaten in Division 7 with Thursday night’s victory against Pittsfield.

Follow all of the action here on the FOOTBALL RATINGS page, as we update scores as they go final. Watch the playoff ratings change on the fly as we inch closer each day to the postseason matchups being finalized at the end of the month.
